National Aviation Day, celebrated annually on August 19th in the United States, is a special observance that pays tribute to the significant contributions of aviation pioneers and honors the marvels of aviation as a whole. It was first celebrated in 84 years ago. The origin of National Aviation Day can be traced back to the birth date of one of America’s most iconic aviation pioneers: Orville Wright. Wright was born on August 19, 1871, and was 68 years old when President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed the inaugural National Aviation Day in 1939. Through this proclamation, President Roosevelt encouraged citizens to commemorate this day with activities that promote interest and engagement in aviation. And so began the observance of a day to honor the history, progress, and future potential of aviation, highlighting the impact it has had on society and global connectivity. |
